In 1983, I received my B.S. in Nursing at
the University of Missouri, Columbia. Romance took me to
Honolulu, Hawaii, where I married my husband. We lived
there for six years. In 1994, my family and I moved to
Knoxville after a four-year stint in Lawrence, Kansas, where my
husband received his graduate degree in industrial design.
He landed a job designing furniture for Falcon Products
so we loaded up the truck and we moved to Tennessee.
My specialty was critical care nursing
until 1996 when I joined the staff as an RN at the Lisa Ross
Birth & Women's Center. While working here with the
midwives, I learned about CNEP, a community nurse-midwifery
education program. I realized I could become a CNM
without leaving my community, and I could learn with the
midwives who inspired me. In September, 1999, I left my
RN duties and became a nurse-midwifery student at the Center
until June, 2000, when I graduated from the Frontier School of
Midwifery. I am delighted to return to Lisa Ross Birth
& Women's Center as a certified nurse midwife, and to work
with the two CNMs who "birthed" me as a midwife.
I continue to make Knoxville my home.
My family and I take advantage of the Smoky Mountains
every chance we get; we enjoy biking, hiking, camping, and
canoeing.
