I’ve always felt a calling to be a midwife and in 1997, the calling became a reality. Before that time, I received by B.S. in Nursing in 1984 from Adelphi University in New York. I’ve worked in all areas of children’s and women’s health during the past twelve years. I graduated in 1997 with my M.S. in Nurse-Midwifery from the State University of New York, Stony Brook.

For me, midwifery is a calling. It starts in the heart and moves to the mind, spirit and body. I was called to midwifery after spending over ten years in various areas of maternal and child nursing. My belief is that every pregnancy and birth is as unique and special as each woman who experiences it. Pregnancy is more than growing a baby…it is also the making of a mother. Pregnancy is also how the woman feels emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Her experience is enhanced by how the health care provider listens to her concerns and questions.

I believe in getting to know not only the woman, but her family as well. When the time comes for labor and birth, I feel honored to be a part of the process with the woman being the focus. At the Lisa Ross Birth and Women’s Center, I’m able to practice these beliefs.

When I’m not at the Center, I enjoy the mountains and beauty surrounding me each day in East Tennessee. My husband, Alan, and I love to travel and take road trips to visit our large extended family and friends. I am an avid reader and gardener, and I love the ocean.
